Permits are ONLY issued Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at City Hall. If you send in a permit application requests on Saturday, Sunday, or on holiday, it will NOT be processed.
Any one who would like to have a bonfire along the Lewes beach shoreline from Roosevelt Inlet to Cape Shores must apply for a Bonfire Permit at least one day before the intended event. Requests can be sent to City Hall via email, fax, or dropping it off in person. Permits are then issued by email to recipient unless otherwise specified.
Bonfires hours are restricted during the peak season of Memorial Day to Labor Day from 6:00 p.m to 11:30 p.m. Off peak season bonfire hours are 4:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
All fires must be in a contained unit with a bottom such as a metal ring, fire pit, or barrel. Do not burn any wood/charcoal in the sand. Burying a bonfire in the sand is prohibited. All bonfire applicants must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Alcohol is not allowed on city beaches for any event including bonfires.
Bonfire permits are issued for the specific date and location you request. The fee is non-refundable. A rain date may be requested on your application. Please plan accordingly. Payment can be made by credit card, cash or check made out to the City of Lewes.
$25.00 Non-refundable Fee – Bonfire party with 25 people or less
$50.00 Non-refundable Fee – Bonfire party with 26 people or more
Download the Bonfire Request form here and submit it along with payment to the Parks and Marina Administrator at City Hall. Please allow 24 hours for your permit to be issued.
