Welcome from the City Manager
Welcome to Lewes, the first town in the first state! I hope that you will take some time to explore our website and to learn about all that Lewes has to offer. Whether you are a life-long resident, someone who is new to Lewes, or a visitor, we welcome you and encourage you to enjoy our rich natural and cultural heritage, beautiful beaches, unique shops and boutiques, quality restaurants, museums and historic sites, and our trail networks.
As described in our core values, Lewes is a town of busy days and quiet nights. The many festivals, art shows, parades, and other events hosted in Lewes keep our days bustling, often followed by a quiet dinner downtown. Lewes’ location at the mouth of the Delaware Bay, protected by the point of Cape Henlopen and the breakwater, makes it a great beach for families. The views from Lewes Beach are unparalleled.
As a community, Lewes has small town charm and a face-to-face intimacy that makes you feel at home, whether you live here or you are a visitor. The level of community engagement makes Lewes a beautiful and energetic community. Whether it is the flowers planted in the parks or the preservation of history, Lewes volunteers keep the community going.
We hope that this website provides you the information you need about the services and attractions in Lewes. On behalf of Mayor, City Council, and staff, welcome! We look forward to seeing you in town.
